Elle at Four Months

A Letter to My Daughter
Oh sweet Elle Belle,
Where do I even start?
At four months old, you already bring such joy! You bring light to my life and love to my heart.
At four months old, you amaze me with your sweet spirit. You have such a happy heart! You start each day with a smile and laughter – a lesson for all of us. How much better would the world be if we would all do this? As we say each morning, “It’s a great day to have a great day!”
Indeed, at four months old, you are such a happy baby. You rarely cry. Truly, you only cry when you are exhausted or super hungry. Other than that, you are content and happy from morning to night.
Speaking of night and being tired, I hesitate to even say this, as I don’t want to jinx myself, but… At four months old, you are a super star sleeper! Truly, you amaze me with your sleeping skills! Indeed, you consistently sleep ten to twelve hours straight a night. In fact, last night you broke your own record by sleeping thirteen hours. I can’t even remember the last time you woke up in the middle of the night. Keep it up, sweet girl!!! Mama thanks you. Keep in mind that I’m a mama who had been used to getting all the sleep she wanted for 40 years! And I love my sleep – ha. So, thank you, thank you, thank you.
At four months old, you “talk” so much. And the sound of your voice is the sweetest sound I’ve ever heard! Seriously, it melts my heart to hear you talk and see you smile.
At four months old, you are magic. I marvel at the wonder of watching you learn things. It’s the coolest thing ever! To see you reach for your toys, to see you roll over, to see you try to hold your bottle, to see your eyes light up – these are the moments I live for. You already make me so proud of you!
At four months old, you are so loved and cared for by so many wonderful people. This month, I had to leave you overnight for the first time, as I had some business meetings in Austin. Though I laid awake in my hotel room watching you sleep on the nursery monitor, I knew you were in such good hands with Tita and Daddy and others.
At four months old, you pack a personality beyond your age. You have this wise, knowing look about you, as if you are absorbing and understanding so much about the world around you. I want to continue to expose you to new places and experiences all the time! Along those lines, this month, you went to your first fashion show, and you attended your first art gallery opening. Those are just a couple of the things we did together this month. We go so many places together, and I can’t wait to travel the ends of the earth with you!
Now, on the numbers side of things… at four months old, you seem so big to me! You have chubby cheeks and even some leg rolls. But at your doctor’s appointment, we learned that at four months old, you are still only 12 pounds 6 ounces and 23.5 inches. That puts you at the fourteenth percentile for both. Though you may be small, you are mighty, sweet girl!
At four months old, you make me wonder… How did I live forty years without you? I have no idea. But I do know this: I never want to live another day without you! You are my world, sweet Elle Belle.
