April Letter from the Editor

Carrie's monthly letter.

April Letter from the Editor

Happy April, y’all! It’s time for another monthly letter from the editor – my chance to ramble on about whatever is on my mind. You’ve been warned! Wink, wink.

Around Here Lately

March was a great month. We went on a trip to Florida – my baby’s first time at the beach. I spent some time in Austin. The Austin trip was for a trifecta of reasons: (1) UT Engineering Advisory Board meeting, (2) CarrieColbert.com work (more on that coming soon!), and (3) an exciting business endeavor (more on that soon too!). Plus, our team here at CC.com worked hard, did a great job, and met our goals for the month! So we are celebrating that achievement.

On a personal level, as I alluded to here, I felt like I started to find a groove… parenting-wise, work-wise, exercise-wise, self-care wise. And it feels good. As I’m sure you all can relate, it’s hard to do it all. But I’m learning little by little, day by day, how to prioritize my time and be more efficient.

Well, hopefully April will hold lots of sunshine in the forecast for all of us – both physically and metaphorically. I have to say that April is one of my favorite months. An Idea for May

Before I wrap up, I want to float an idea by you all… Would you be interested in a series of business articles? Tips and tricks and insight and advice and rants about being a businesswoman / running your own business.

I by no means know everything about business. But I do think that in my almost twenty year corporate career, I learned quite a bit. I was afforded some amazing, unique opportunities. I worked in a very entrepreneurial environment. The company was constantly ranked as one of the top places to work in America. Now that I have my own business, I find myself incorporating many of the skills and lessons and philosophies I learned there.

Besides all that, plain and simply put, I am passionate about helping women in business. That passion has been made more and more clear during my recent engagements at UT. In fact, just today, I spoke on a women in engineering panel discussion at UT. After the associated dinner, I stayed and spoke with students for quite a while. As they asked questions and I gave lengthy answers, I realized just how excited and energized I get about this stuff!

Fair warning – this would be some no nonsense, straightforward, useful advice for being a businesswoman. No sugar coating around here. 😉

In Closing

So, let me know your thoughts. I’d love to gauge your interest in a business series, I’d love to hear your thoughts on March content, and I’d love to hear what you’d like to see more of here.

You are important to me! Thank you for being here.

More color please,

Carrie
