And Now We're in the Same Boat

Wednesday Words of Wisdom

Hi there! Before we get into it, we wanted to introduce you to a brand new feature. We are offering free printables of each of the quotes we talk about in our Wednesday Words of Wisdom series. So, read to the bottom and you can simply click the link to open the file and print!

Now, when you think about the people in your life, are they similar to you or widely different? Do you have similar backgrounds or couldn’t be further from the opposite?

They say that we tend to surround ourselves with like-minded people. But that’s actually not always a great thing.

When you surround yourself with like minded people and only like minded people, it’s very easy to get comfortable. But what sometimes comes with that comfort is complacency and not challenging yourself because you don’t necessarily need to. Because those you’re with aren’t challenging you either since you’re all thinking the same (or very similar) thoughts.

It’s something to ask yourself and think about. My guess is that not everyone in your life is just like you. My guess is that maybe some people you closely interact with are quite different from you on various levels.

And thank goodness for that, right? It’s great to surround yourself with a diverse group of people.

It can make for such interesting conversations when you’re not cut from the same cloth as the next person. It can allow you (and them) to learn more about things that they hadn’t spent much time thinking about before. If you’re the exact same to those around you, it’ll be harder to grow and evolve.

At the end of the day, we’re all living in this world together, wanting the best life that we can possibly have, and we’re on this ride together.

- Martin Luther King, Jr.

It’s important to support each other, lift each other up, and above all, be kind. It doesn’t matter who someone is or where they come from, we’re all in this together. And everyone deserves love and kindness.

Make it the year that you get to know people that you think might be totally different from you. Say hello. Ask questions. Be curious. Be genuine.

You never know, you they might just become one of your closest friends.
