The Women’s Home

On another note, I wanted to point out a worthy Houston charity – The Women’s Home. Founded in 1957, The Women’s Home is a longstanding Houston charity dedicated to helping women in crisis regain their self esteem and dignity, empowering them to return to society as productive, self-sufficient individuals.

Last week, I was honored to be featured as one of Houston’s fashion icons at the organization’s annual reNew & reDo fashion show. Read more about the event here and here.

The fashion show is a unique event at which local volunteer models strut down the runway in designer pieces that have been donated to The Women’s Home Cottage Shop (which not only provides revenue for The Women’s Home, it also serves as job training ground for the women in the program). After the show, Houstonians can shop these fabulous pieces, with proceeds benefiting The Women’s Home, of course.

What can you do to help now? If you live in Houston, there are three ways you can help.

  1. Donate your gently worn clothes, shoes, handbags, and more to The Cottage Shop.
  2. Give of your time to volunteer at The Cottage Shop
  3. Shop at The Cottage Shop! You will be surprised at all the treasures waiting to be found.

Thanks as always for reading! Have a great  weekend.

That would look great on you! And thanks so much, sweet Bella.

  2. awesome post as these are my current obsession!!! i have been looking for one of these since last october! a thicker material (wool) in a camel shade is what I have my heart set on, so i’ll be looking for a slightly less expensive version of the alexander wang one you show here! the topshop one you linked is a great price point, but it is a thinner material and with a raw hem which felt too casual for my particular needs. and i just pinned that exact rag & bone one last week. it is to die for. can’t wait to see how you style your new piece!

Jessica – totally understand. I haven’t found a great less expensive option to the Alexander Wang one yet, but I’ll keep my eye out.

For what it’s worth, I decided to splurge on the AW one. Given the warmer climate that I live in, this will serve as my “coat” for most of the season. You might justify it that way too. 😉 It’s a great quality piece!

  3. Cute pink vest 🙂

Congrats on such a fun honor! Love sleeveless vests – I just picked one up (at Karen Millen of all places) that is SO cute. I’m going to wear it as a dress over a slip.
