What’s Inspiring Us

Written by Hannah Lyons

Hello to all! First, have you noticed our new Friday concept? Instead of Friday Favorite Finds, we’re focusing on what grabs our attention and strikes our creativity, we’re focusing on what we’re ‘Inspired By’. Accordingly, last week’s article  on the award winning La La Land. Better yet? Keep reading to find out what’s inspirited us this Friday…

Inspired By: The ‘Pillow Painting’

Our inspiration for today is a gorgeous contemporary piece by the ever so amazing, Hunt Slonem, titled Pillow Painting.

No doubt, Hunt Slonem is an artist favorite of ours. In fact, Carrie introduced us to him and his work. She’s been a big fan for a while and has even visited his studio / gallery in Brooklyn, NYC several times. I mean, look at how fabulous his studio is! Indeed, it’s an explosion of color and creativity. I’m in love with this huge butterfly painting of his that Carrie has in her home.

His use of color and texture techniques never ceases to amaze. Ironically, this “painting” is a print. Created in 1980, Pillow Painting is a serigraph or a print produced with the silkscreen progress. For this piece, in particular, Slonem uses eye-catching tropical hues and detailed patterns, all inspired by his time spent in Nicaragua (an influencer of many of his piece themes). Usually recognized by his bunny pieces, I found this print refreshing and unique.

So what’s your favorite Hunt Slonem piece? Speaking of his bunnies, if you’d like to see more of those paintings, check out this beautiful Bunnies coffee table book. Plus, find even more inspiration in this fabulous book which artfully combines Hunt’s love for both art and interior design.
