Our Favorite Sunglasses and A Creative Storage Solution

Summer is here, so bring on the sunglasses!

Summertime Sunglasses

Now that it’s officially summertime, bring on the long, sunny days! With the sun comes the need for sunglasses. Stylish ones, of course!

Do we have you revved up enough about summer sunglasses? Well, if you need more reason to celebrate, guess what? There’s a holiday for sunglasses! Yep – there is seemingly a holiday for everything these days. But we aren’t mad about it at all.

National Sunglasses Day is June 27. So let’s commemorate this hot holiday and sunny season!

In the spirit of celebrating, we thought it’d be fun to (1) share a creative storage solution for sunglasses, (2) share the five types of sunglasses everyone should consider this summer, and (3) dish on our team members’ favorite styles!

So keep on reading for all that!

A Creative Storage Solution for Sunglasses

When it comes to storing my clothing and accessories, I’m always trying to find the most efficient, yet still aesthetically pleasing, solutions possible. Sunglasses have always been a struggle for me. What do you do? Use the cases they come in? While that keeps them protected, then you can’t see which ones. Keep them in a drawer organizer? That worked okay, but not great for display purposes. See – I told you it was a struggle!

But a few years ago, my friend Kristen of High End Hippie shared this idea with me – and it has changed my life! I’m not kidding. Well, it’s at least improved the organization of the sunglasses in my life. I’ve been using this method for over two years – and I love it!

Here’s the secret… You ready for it?

I store my sunglasses in a nail polish organizer

The exact one I have is currently sold out, but I found a few similar ones here, here, and here! Yes, really. This storage solution is inexpensive, and the sunglasses fit wonderfully! Plus, it looks good on my wall as well.

Now that I’ve told you the secret, I have to tell you the key. I have found that, for me, the key is to put this where it’s convenient for you as you leave the house. I used to have it in my closet, but that led to a bit of a chaotic mess for me. Sometimes sunglasses were downstairs in my car, sometimes they were upstairs, and sometimes they were who knows where! But now that I’ve hung this in my mudroom (by the door to the garage), it’s easy to grab a matching pair each day as I rush out the door! I always know where all my sunglasses are, and they stay nicely organized.

Problem solved! Sunglasses successfully organized!

5 Sunglasses Styles to Try This Summer

If you’re considering purchasing some new sunglasses this summer, here are the five categories I’d suggest you check out. Plus, I’ve included which ones I have in each category, plus some other recommendations.

1. Statement sunglasses

Just as I like a bold lip, I love me some statement sunglasses! Sparkly, colorful — the more pizazz the better in my book! Even on days when I don’t bother to put on much makeup, a pair of sparkly sunglasses make me feel more pulled together while I’m out and about. Yes, these are a splurge, but I love them! I am also eyeing these.

2. Oversized frames

I know small sunglasses are in vogue now, particularly with the celebrity and model sets, but in the real world, day to day life, I don’t find those particularly flattering on most of us. Plus, I think it’s a passing trend. I still lean towards the mantra of “the bigger, the better!” when it comes to my sunglasses! And while these Karen Walk super duper sunglasses have been around for a few years now, they are still my go-to glasses! I have them in both tortoise and black.

3. Aviator sunglasses

In my opinion, everyone needs a good pair of aviator sunglasses. They are so classically cool and casual. Ray-Ban makes the best aviators – and for relatively reasonable prices. No surprise – my personal pick for aviators has a colorful cast. I’ve enjoyed these blue aviator sunglasses for many years!

4. Novelty sunglasses

If you’re looking for some novelty sunglasses, heart-shaped sunglasses are the way to go! They are definitely trending this season! I have these fun ones. If you’re looking for less pricey alternatives, try these.

5. Round sunglasses

Now, as for round sunglasses, I like the retro vibe. But I wasn’t certain they would flatter my face shape. And I’m still not sure it’s the best shape for me, but that’s beside the point. The point is I opted for a relatively inexpensive option to try the shape. I love the quality of these J.Crew round sunnies that come in three colors!

Our Team Favorite Sunglasses

Alex: I’ve had these for years and they will never go out of style, which is why I love these Ray-bans.

Amy: My favorites are these Tom Ford sunglasses. I tried on this style years ago while in Thailand when a client let me borrow them and though I fell in love with them, I couldn’t justify the price. After accomplishing a big business deal, I decided to finally treat myself (6+ years later). Not only am I obsessed with them, but I get compliments on them daily.

Ashley: I get my sunglasses at Target (in the dollar spot section). You can find good styles there and you can’t beat the price! Personally, I’m a fan of aviators.

Jayme: As a sporty gal, it should come as no surprise these navy, mirrored Ray-bans are my favorites – perfect for beach and lake days and they are navy so they are perfect for an Astros game, too! (Side note: be sure to check out my Astros trivia article!)

Jenny: My favorite sunglasses are these beauties from Krewe. The NOLA brand was made famous by Beyonce, and then Gigi Hadid. And if they’re good enough for Beyonce and Gigi, they’re good enough for me! I snagged my first pair at their NOLA flagship store on a girl’s trip. Be prepared to get lots of compliments when you buy these!

Julie: Ray-ban aviators have been my favorite sunglasses for so long. I wear them almost exclusively! They fit my face shape well (and I’ve tried many styles!!) and I think they have a bit of an edgy feel to them which I love.

Maritere: My favorite glasses have gotten scratched over time, and I’ve been on the lookout for a similar style to replace them. I finally came upon these! I love a perfect clear frame that you can dress up or dress down, and can pair with any outfit, whether colorful or neutral.

Your Thoughts

Now we’d love to hear from you! What’s your favorite style of sunglasses? Any you’re eyeing from above?

And give that sunglasses organization tip a try! You’ll thank me later.

Have a great rest of your day!

More color, please!
