3 Things to Know This Week

Monday Memo: 07.13.2020

Happy Monday!

How are you, friends? These days, I never seem to know how to handle that question… “Good” doesn’t quite seem right. “Okay” feels a little vague. I tend to answer something along these lines…

As good as can be expected during these weird times, I guess.

Do you feel me? Can you relate? I bet you can! This is something affecting all of us. No one can escape it.

We had a good/normal weekend, all things being considered… We spent some time playing golf and some time at our club’s pool. They are taking all sorts of measures to be safe — reservations required, very few people allowed during each time slot, etc. The sun makes me happy, so all of that outdoor time was good for my soul! I hope you did something which was good for your soul.

Now, without further ado, let’s get to the Monday Memo…

3 Things to Know This Week

1 – Renovation Island

Have you watched Renovation Island on HGTV yet? We are obsessed!!!

Now, I should preface this by saying that I am, in general, a big fan of HGTV. But my love for Renovation Island is off the charts!

In case you haven’t yet seen it, the premise is this… The Baumler family (wife/mom Sarah Baumler here on IG) uproot their entire family and life as they know it to move to the Bahamas to restore and reopen a rundown beach resort. Bryan Baumler is a contractor by trade, while Sarah Baumler is an interior designer. Their two skill sets combine beautifully on the show, plus peeks into their family life on the island are fun too!

Spoiler alert: Caerula Mar Club is the result of their efforts – and the South Andros beachfront resort is simply stunning! I can’t wait to visit!!

2 – My Favorite Masks on the Internet

Sigh… If we have to wear them, I guess we should look good doing so.

Truth be told – I originally thought this mask thing was just a short-term thing, so I’ve just been using the disposable masks. But then recently I saw a post about how bad the disposable masks can be for the environment. Another thing to worry about!

So, I guess it’s time to invest in some fabric masks. Here are some of the best I’ve found online…

3 – A Twitter Thread to Reminisce

This last one is just to make you laugh…

Admittedly, I am not a big Twitter user. But I’ll hop over there occasionally to check on current events and such.

Sometimes, my foray onto Twitter ends in me discovering the most humorous posts. And this is a good example of this. You must read both the original post and all the replies!

The user poses the question:

Things you thought were the height of class when you were a child?

The replies include hilarious items like Milano cookies, Andes chocolate mint candies, Steak and Ale restaurant and so much more.

You’ll be laughing and reminiscing as you read this.

Now, tell me… how would you answer this question??

My answer would include the likes of Red Lobster, Olive Garden, Chili’s, Jessica McClintock dresses, Guess jeans, and so much more. Haha

In Closing

I wish you all a wonderful week. And I promise I’ll get the Frozen birthday party blog post up this week!

More color, please!

Carrie

PS – the photos shared here contain stunning artwork by Sarah Ferguson which can be found at Dimmitt Contemporary Art in Houston!

Oh that’s easy! Esprit Outlet in San Francisco(when outlets were really in warehouses and deeply discounted.) Guess overalls…we all saved up for a pair! Red Lobster! Black Angus! Oh, and we all wanted a convertible VW Cabriolet! Like the girl in ‘Can’t Buy Me Love!’ Haha this was fun!

    1. LOL – yes to Esprit! I forgot that one.

  2. Sheri says:

    Hi Carrie,
Bryan Baumler and his family are Canadian, so it’s kind of cool up here to know they are enjoying such success.

Height of class when I was a kid….Esprit, Roots (Canadian clothing brand), and Opium perfume.

    Take care,
    Sheri

    1. Yes, I’ve learned that! And I learned the show already aired in Canada under the name Island of Bryan. So cool!

    2. And yes to Esprit! Good one.

  3. Ashley Moseley says:

Ha, super fun question…definitely seafood, Banana Republic, and anything gold! Ha ha.

    1. Yes to Banana Republic! That was a step up from Gap or Old Navy for sure. Haha.
