MSGM

If you’ve been reading Wear + Where + Well for any length of time at all, you have probably gathered that one of my passions is introducing you to emerging designers. Actually, I don’t necessarily like using the term “emerging” as that makes them sound new to designing. In fact, some of these designers have been honing their craft for years. Nevertheless, I love highlighting designers who are perhaps lesser known on the whole, but yet are churning out unique, high quality designs.

With that in mind, let me introduce you to the MSGM.

Designed by 38-year old Italian Massimo Giorgetti and launched in 2009, the label has become a fashion insider favorite. Massimo has a unique knack for mixing traditional Italian craftsmanship with fresh ideas inspired by contemporary art and music – which is quite fitting, as he was a DJ before becoming a designer. Mixing and matching old and new seamlessly, Massimo has created a line full of surprises. I am really drawn to his innovative silhouettes, bold colors, and unexpected textures. At the same time, the pieces are extremely wearable.

You might recall that I wore this MSGM star-print dress on day 1 of New York Fashion Week last month. During fashion month, I also really enjoyed seeing blogger Shea Marie and her friend and singer Caroline Vreeland both wearing MSGM on the streets during Milan Fashion Week, as seen here via Getty Images. Even Lady Gaga was recently spotted wearing MSGM.

If I haven’t already sold you on the merits of MSGM, you should also know that just this past spring iconic Italian design house Emilio Pucci named Massimo as creative director. His first collection for Pucci (spring/summer 2016) was shown in Milan just last month. You can view that collection here.

Thanks, Maggie! Definitely do check them out. Many of their pieces remain at “reasonable” price points (for designer goods), given the quality and design and craftsmanship.
