Carrie’s Travel Essentials

Editor’s Note by Julie Weinstein : Did you know that last year Carrie went on 52 flights (175,000 miles)? Yes, really! If you’ve been a long time reader of Wear + Where + Well, you know Carrie loves to travel. It’s one of her all time favorite past times, and she’s seen so many incredible parts of the world. Of course, due to pregnancy, her travel plans were certainly not as frequent this year. Though, I know she can’t wait to pick back up on her travels in the future (with baby girl in tow, of course!).

With all that being said, as fun as traveling can be, it can also be stressful and taxing on the body. Carrie has some things she’ll never travel without that help make her travels as relaxing and easy as possible. And a few weeks back Allison Bagley of the Houston Chronicle interviewed Carrie on not only those travel essentials, but also her favorite destinations, what’s on her bucket list, and much more. You can read the entire article below.

My Travel Essentials: Carrie Colbert of Wear + Where + Well

By Allison Bagley | May 9, 2017

Jet-setter Carrie Colbert – the lifestyle blogger behind Wear + Where + Well, who’s known as @CarrieC by her Instagram followers – spills her onboard rituals, frequent flyer tips and what she packs to be photo-ready for social-media posts along the way.

Travel stats in 2016: 175,000 miles, 52 flights, eight countries

Most memorable trip: New Zealand. We experienced an earthquake with a 7.8 magnitude in the middle of the night. I woke up thinking my bed was surfing.

Seat mate: My partner, Bob Hogan, loves travel as much as I do. Maybe even more than I do.

All-time favorite destinations: London and the Virgin Islands

Carry-on or checked luggage?: Even if I’m going to the Middle East or Europe, I try to only pack a carry-on. I’m not a fan of checking luggage – too much can go wrong.

Go-to suitcase: Tumi Alpha International zippered expandable carry-on. Zipped up, it makes the perfect carry on. If you do some shopping and want to expand the bag on the way home, you can fit much more – although you’ll likely have to check it.

Most recent trip: The Kentucky Derby. Bob is really into horse racing and owns horses. It’s an annual tradition.

Next up?:  Well, I have my first child, a baby girl, due in July, so that was probably our last trip before the baby comes. (Being pregnant) I’ve been Houston-bound way more than I’m used to. I’m going a little stir crazy!

Onboard beauty essentials: You get so dehydrated up in the air. I make sure to drink a lot of water and I have some hydrating oil for my face – I love Tata Harper hydrating floral essence and La Mer The Mist. And, of course, a toothbrush and toothpaste.

How do you settle in for an overseas flight?: We tend to pick a movie and put it on, eat a meal and then take a little something to make us drowsy. I get such good sleep on planes. Especially in those lay-flat seats.

Footwear for exploring: Golden Goose sneakers. They are definitely a splurge, but unbelievably comfortable. Plus, they elevate any outfit.

On vacation, you’re usually shopping for: Art.

On your bucket list: Australia, Spain, Greece and the Eastern European countries. I love island travel, so the Maldives and Fiji are high on my list.

How soon will you get your new little one up in the air?: I definitely want to instill in her that sense of adventure and desire to see the world. Travel is so important because your perspective changes and grows the more of the world you see.

How do you carry your passport?: I love the classic look of my Clare V. striped cover. And my passport is always in my purse – you never know when a trip might pop up.

If you can’t fly United you book…: Air New Zealand is really fun. The flight attendants have a joking demeanor. And the ultimate in luxury has to be Emirates. I’ve gone to Dubai three times on Emirates. There’s nothing like it. Especially first-class. It’s the epitome of what everyone else should aspire to be in terms of a luxury airline.
