An Exclusive Look at The Color Condition’s Brand New Installation at Discovery Green and Avenida Houston

We have been anxiously awaiting to bring you today’s post, as it encompasses everything we love. You know how deep our passion for both color and art runs, so when the two are combined, there are few things we love more.

So, when Discovery Green invited us to have an exclusive look at The Color Condition’s Arcade installation, in Avenida Houston, we jumped incredibly fast at the opportunity. And we’re so thrilled to be able to share it with you before it officially opens to the public tonight!

The Color Condition

The Color Condition is a team of two talented artists, Sunny and Marianne, who are drawn to repetition, patternization, color, and wind in its natural motion. And this is exactly what you’ll see in their Arcade installation. This is their Houston debut, and their largest commission, to date.

Arcade by Color Condition

Arcade consists of three separate installations all hanging overhead throughout the park and the avenue, which are made from strips of tablecloths, shower curtains, and painters drop cloth. What’s so neat is that depending on how the light changes and the wind blows, the colors continue to change.

It’s so extremely colorful, truly like an intense sea of color. And not only are the colors so breathtakingly beautiful, the movement is mesmerizing! As the art moves in the wind, it makes such a peaceful rustling sound, too. And due to how the installation is set up, it creates a canopy of shade (which certainly helps in this heat!).

We’re so lucky to have this installation here in Houston, and it’ll be on display until November 15th.

Opening Day and Celebration

As we mentioned above, today is the official opening day, and we urge you to make your way downtown because it really is one of the most incredible things we’ve ever seen!

As well, on September 9th, there will be a huge celebration and party, where we will have a big presence, along with various performances and workshops, such as a hat making workshop (like the colorful fascinator you see Carrie wearing in the photos). We will be bringing you more details on that very soon, so stay tuned!

Tips for Bloggers

As Carrie was posting a few behind the scenes shots on her Instagram, she got a number of questions from fellow bloggers, so we wanted to share some tips and more information right here.

Again, there are three main installations. All are overhead, and one is in the park itself while the other two are on the avenue.

In our opinion, the one that’s best for blog photos is the one in the park (near The Grove restaurant). It’s best for a couple reasons.

1. The overhead installation is hung lower than the other two, so you can capture more of the color along with your outfit.

2. The installation is very full and bulky, providing great even shade and even light for photos.

Tips :

1. You’ll need to get creative with your angles. As bloggers, we are used to having colorful backgrounds like walls and murals. With the colorful art above rather than behind, take the opportunity to experiment with new shots and angles.

2. Consider your shoes. This installation in the park is on a gravel type of surface. Maybe skip the stilettos and opt for a block heel or flats instead.

In addition to the three main installations, there are a couple more fun photo opps to consider :

  • A fun selfie backdrop (the photos above where Carrie is walking in front of a backdrop)
  • A gateway (the entrance to the installation)

A Few More Things

Pretty amazing, right? We weren’t kidding! And it’s even more incredible in person. We hope you loved this exclusive look at Arcade, and please let us know once you go check it out because we’d love to hear what you think. As well, we will keep you posted on more details on the September 9th event very soon! Have a great rest of your day and we’ll see you back here tomorrow morning.
