An Exclusive Interview with Babi Ahluwalia of Sachin & Babi

If you are at all tuned into the fashion world, then you know that New York Fashion Week (NYFW) has been going on for the last few days. And you might recall that I typically have attended NYFW. However, with a newborn baby and with Hurricane Harvey hitting, plus some other priorities pulling at me, I decided to forego attending this time. 

But, I am super pleased to share with you that we have an exclusive interview with perhaps my favorite designer and one of my favorite people: Babi Ahluwalia of Sachin & Babi. You can see my love for their exquisite designs exhibited here, here, and here – to name just a few times I’ve worn them. In case you aren’t familiar, Sachin & Babi are a husband and wife team. And I am so grateful for the friendship we have developed over the years. They are genuine, warm, kind people – who also happen to be amazingly talented designers.

An Interview with Babi Ahluwalia of Sachin & Babi on Spring/Summer 2018

What was your inspiration behind this collection?

The Spring 2018 collection was inspired by the captivating energy of Istanbul, as well as French fashion muse, Loulou de la Falaise electric bohemian spirit. The collection celebrates diversity and the marriage of old world charm with effortless, contemporary style.

What’s your favorite piece from the collection and why?

Look 14. It is for the true fashion dreamer. It reminds me of a look that Sarah Jessica Parker would wear in the early days of Sex and the City. 

What do you think will be a huge trend for Spring 2018?

Fringe, Fuchsia & Orange, Sashes & Sequins. 

Indeed, we love your use of sequins in this collection. What advice would you give to one wanting to wear sequins?

Less is more. For instance, look 35 we styled with no necklace or jewelry, just a simple clutch. Sequins are amazing when getting photographed, so they are perfect for social events. Pair with a bright lip and clean natural NARS shimmer stick for beauty. 

We always adore your jewelry (especially your gorgeous statement earrings!). Which is your favorite piece / pair from the collection and why?

I am obsessed with the dupio earrings. They were featured on the runway and are available to buy now. They are colorful, make a subtle statement and is one my favorite pieces when it comes to dressing up a look. PS. They also make you look younger.
